Over the last week in East Cape and Cabo, we have been seeing some pretty good action inshore despite the rain and overcast conditions.

East Cape: The dorado bite has been good and most of the bigger dorado have been found around the lighthouse area. Average size dorado is around 15-20lbs. Normally, at this time of year there are very few dorado around the East Cape this late in the season, but for some reason they are still around and there is no telling how long they will stick around.

San Jose and Cabo: The inshore bite has been really good lately with some incredible bird action and big dorado. We found birds almost every time we where out and moved from one school to the next following the birds. Also, the sierra bite has been very strong with the average fish being around 4 pounds. There also some reports of yellowtail in the area and we should know more about their location shortly.

I will be in Colorado for the trade show on January 4th  and then off to Sacramento, CA.  I will grab some video and pictures of the new products for 2013 and post it on Facebook, so be sure to keep an eye out.

Tight lines,

Jeff

Over this past week we had a turn in the weather with rain and overcast conditions  making things less than ideal for fishing.

East Cape : The wind has been blowing, but there are some days that we do catch a break in the weather. On non windy days, anglers can experience some of the best winter fishing in the area,  with fantastic beach and inshore fishing. The other day, I went scouting on the ATV and saw some small schools of bait that had been herded by small jacks and roosters just off the beach. Once you find the bait inshore, you can have a blast from the beach with jacks, roosters and sierra on a 7-8 weight. Offshore, there are still some scattered dorado and marlin around.

Cabo and San Jose:  In the Cabo area we are seeing a fair amount of roosterfish and jacks in the inshore fishery.  Also, there are reports that Yellowtail are coming into the area.

As we approach the new year, I will be off the water and getting ready for the fly fishing shows  that I will be attending. The first show we will be at is in Denver, January 4-6 then Sacramento, CA 9-13.  More dates to follow. If you are in the area, please come by the booth and introduce yourself.

Tight lines,

Jeff.

Hi Everyone,

So, this week we have been in the East Cape region and we are seeing some really good fishing. Dorado has been the top bite of the week with the average dorado size running between 20- 40 pounds.  They are scattered, but are a good size and well worth looking for.

Marlin: The marlin are around, but they are scattered and deep. Be patient, and there is a good chance you will find one or two marlin if you put in the time.

Bonito: Bonito are back for awhile.  They are football-sized but they put up a great fight and are a lot of fun on light tackle. If you find captains who have sardines, get some. Keeping the school around the boat will be easier if you have some live sardines.

Sierra: Sierra are still keeping us busy and we saw a change by a few degrees in water temp this week, so the sierra bite will only improve over the next few weeks as water temps cool down even further.

Next week, the weather should be good and I will be back in Cabo fishing with clients as we target marlin and dorado.  Also, I will soon be posting my schedule of the fly fishing shows that “The Reel Baja” will be attending this upcoming year. It will be great to see old friends and meet new ones as well, so if  you are attending any of the shows, please stop by and introduce yourself.

Tight lines,

Jeff.
