Hi folks,

Things here in Baja are heating up!  Not only the air temp’s, as well as the humidity, but the water temperatures are rising as well.  It is definitely summer here in Baja.  As you can see from the shot below, taken just a couple days ago, the water is providing us with excellent fly fishing conditions.

We’re are seeing excellent fly fishing off shore for tuna, dorado, and marlin.  We’ve go lot’s of football size tuna in the area.  They have been between eight and twenty pounds with the average fish weighing about twelve pounds.  These fish are feeding on small red crabs that are currently in our waters.  We’ve been seeing the fish” breezing” on the surface feeding on the crabs.  Our best technique this week was once we located one of these schools we’ve been shutting down the boat and casting into the boils the tuna are creating as they feed on the crabs.  This method has been providing some great action.

Another Baja Rooster fish!

The dorado are being caught off the buoy’s in front of Los Frailes.   We have had pretty consistent action for smaller to medium sized dorado for the past few weeks.  They were to our North a couple weeks ago but now they are concentrated to the South.

Another Gallo from the beach!!

I have been spending most of my days on the beach.  We’re seeing some excellent fly fishing for Rooster fish.  A lot of people are complaining that the sardina are not available and that without them the fishing for rooster fish is tough.  We are seeing great success.  Yes we are seeing some of the fish showing spawning behavior that is typical this time of year.  We are also seeing plenty of fish that are very aggressive, hungry, and willing to eat the fly.  Sure, some of these fish are not the “grande” variety but they are rooster fish on the fly and they are fun!!

Just plain fun!!

I will be out once again every day this week. I will be fishing most of the week on the beach.  The action we are currently seeing is just to hard to pass up.  If the action on the beach falls off we will jump in a boat and fish the out side.  I love this time of year.  You have so many options and so many species to fish for.    I will be sure to let you all know what we find.

Until next time…Keep fly fishing!

And we still have a few big ones out of the boat.
