Baja Mexico fly fishing update and report for January 12th 2010.
Water temp. 74 – 77
Air temp. 54- 80
It is mid January and we have had some very nice weather so far in 2010. On the East Cape side of the peninsula we continue to see some strong winds from the North. However, our days were filled with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. The winds did not come up as early this past week. Anglers in the area who were willing to get up early and try their luck were rewarded with good fishing before the winds blew them off the water.
The East Cape is surprising anglers who are venturing off shore with good catches of Dorado and Marlin. Closer to shore the Sierra continue to be the main attraction.
On the other side out of Cabo San Lucas we have had no wind to speak of with flat sea conditions and some pretty good fishing. We continue to see some Dorado although the strong bite we saw last week dropped off slightly this week. Inshore we continue to see good action for Sierra. Most of the Sierra we caught this past week were slightly smaller than the fish we were catching a few weeks ago but they were plenty big to put a good bend in an 8wt.
I will be back on the Pacific side starting on Friday as I have more cliets looking to get out of the cold and snow and into the sun and surf of Cabo to catch a few fish on the fly along the way. I will be sure to report how we do.
Until then…. keep fishing.
