Christmas week was slow in Cabo but picking up. There are a few jacks and roosters inshore. Yesterday we nailed a few great jacks. Offshore there is marlin and that’s probably the best bite. It’s not wide open and a bit tough on the fly as they have been hanging deep. There is a lot of marlin on the finger bank and they are chasing teasers and are fly fishing friendly. The only problem is it’s a 40-mile ride to the bank.
On the non-windy days in the East Cape fishing has been pretty good for this time of year. We have some small to medium (8-20 lbs) dorado around. They have been biting best early in the morning and tapering off midday. We also have some rooster fish around as well as skip jack tuna. There are small sardines and small ballyhoo along the beach and they have been chasing them.
It looks like we might get some wind here in a day or two for a couple of days. After that, it looks good for a couple of days. I will be here fishing in Cabo until the 2nd. I will be sure to report how the trip goes. Until next time tight lines.
The fall season is off to a bang in Mag Bay. Lots and lots of marlin here in Mag Bay. Weather has been great although we got a bit of week towards the end of the week, the fishing has been fantastic.
Also, some small to medium tuna in the banks with a few dorado out the entrance that are keeping anglers busy. The marlin fishing is something to behold and the hottest I’ve seen for a long time.
Fish feeding on bait balls everywhere as we have raised more fish than we have seen over the last few seasons. They are keyed in on the bait so getting them to come to the teasers is tough at times, however, there are enough fish so we are getting lots of shots every day.
In the mangroves, the fishing is very good as well. Snook, grouper, corvina, Bay bass, pompano, and snapper all here and the fishing has been good.
Home in the East Cape lots of north wind so not much fishing opportunities. We have a few dates open so please call with any questions or request a trip.
HOT!! The weather is hot. Been pretty nice with no storms. One overcast day last week but overall lots of sun and heat. Bring sunscreen.
* Beach – it’s been a little difficult. There are a few fish in and around on the beach, but not many. The ones that are here are big though. My buddy Solis was here for 5 days to hit the beach. He got one nice fish over the 5 days, but it was a beauty. Overall, from the beach, it’s slow but not undoable if you put in the time.
*Offshore – it’s been ok. We have had decent fishing for tuna and dorado mostly to the south. There was a nice school of tuna out with the porpoise but a commercial tuna boat came and wrapped them up.
There are a lot of marlins both blue and striped but they are scattered so you have to go looking. No real concentration in a certain spot. You have a chance just about anywhere.
We have been seeing a few more roosters from the boat in the deeper water over the numbers on the beach. It might be due to water temps as the water inshore is pretty warm at the moment. But this is just a theory… Defiantly a few more from the boats than the beach so i’d focus on the deeper water.
We do have some dates available so if anyone is interested in coming down please call.
